The Hunger Games Trilogy – Suzanne Collins
A story about a dystopian society in which the government exercises complete control over its people by dividing them into smaller zones and forcing two children from each zone to participate in a televised fight to the death, called The Hunger Games. The stories hero,16 year old Katniss Everdeen, volunteers to be a tribute for the 74th Hunger Games to take the place of her younger sister who was chosen by a lottery. The games seem to be just as much about marketing as they do about battle itself – and Katniss learns to excel in both (even playing up a love angle in order to stay alive). After a few recommendations, I picked up the first book on a cross country trip. By the end of the trip (and a few detours to book stores), I had completed the series.
