Last year, BHS participated in the inaugural World Book Night in the US, where people distributed specially-printed books to people for free, with the hopes to encourage reading. We hope to continue participating this year (our application to be a book giver is already in) and the 2013 list of books to distribute has been announced and can be seen HERE.
Among the titles are some books we already teach at BHS (The House on Mango Street and Fahrenheit 451), two additional authors whom we teach (Mark Twain – A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court and John Green – Looking for Alaska), and two titles that have already come up in our 30-Day November Challenge discussions, Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Michael Lewis’s Moneyball.
This year, we hope to have more than 20 books go out to BHS students, and we are trying to think of new ways of distributing the books once they arrive. Stay tuned!
