On Writing by Stephen King
On Writing is not just for aspiring writers, although it should certainly prove a useful tool for them. In his highly conversational and accessible style, Stephen King narrates two journeys: his own development as a writer, and the steps necessary for any writer striving to develop his craft. King details his formative years, schooling, marriage, and battle with addiction, discussing how his writing alternately grew and faltered during each of these times. The second half of the book is dedicated to King’s advice on how to become a writer – which boils down to “write, write, write. And love doing it.” This nonfiction book is just as funny, engaging, and gripping as some of King’s more thrilling adventures! A great summer book for those who love writing, and those who love reading.
