There’s so much happening in the English Department on April 30th that it’s impossible to fit it all into one post. But here’s an attempt at a summary – with more details to come…
World Book Night 2014 – 80 copies of specially printed books will be given away to BHS students and staff during the course of the school day. Get ready for contests and events to help you win one of the books! Stay tuned for descriptions of the four titles that we’ll be giving away, which we’ll post here starting next week.
2014 Collab Released – Barring any printing fiasco, the 2014 edition of Collab will be available for purchase starting on April 30. Collab will be taking pre-orders at lunch starting next week. The magazine has sold out twice in the last four years, and there are only a handful of copies of the 2013 magazine remaining.
Out of Print Fundraiser – Along with the Collab release, we will once again be having a fundraiser in connection to Out of Print Clothing, an online site that sells literary-themed clothing and gear. Students and staff who buy Out of Print gear will be entitled to a FREE copy of the 2014 Collab!
The Final Day of the Poetry Month Challenge – The students in Mr. Lally’s class will finish their challenge where they’ve committed to writing 30 poems in the month of April.
Open Mic Night at True North – In connection to both the Collab release and the end of the poetry challenge, True North will host an Open Mic Night where BHS students will be able to read their own original written works, or their favorite poems or stories.
Literati Blowout – Get Free Books – The remaining books that we’ve purchased this year for BHS students will be given away, either via the FREE BOOKS table in the English hallway, or even better, through Lally’s Literati. If you see any titles that you’d like from the slideshow below, click on the link in this paragraph and add your request – you do not have to be one of Mr. Lally’s students to receive a book, and these one will all be free (even the awesome hardbound copies of Joyce, Faulkner, Auden and Brontë). I’d prefer to give these out via request, so ask away – you’ll certainly get something for free!
Poetry Out Loud National Finals – Good luck to Springfield’s Courtney Stewart as he aims to bring the 2014 POL championship to Massachusetts.
It’s all happening… ON THE SAME DAY! More specifics as they arise…
