Congratulations to Laura Harder, whose short story, “My Long and Tedious Life” was recently voted the top Sci-Fi/Fantasy story on the website Teen Ink. Check out the story HERE!
If this story sounds familiar, it is because a version of it was also published in this year’s Collab (under a slightly longer title). Congratulations, Laura! And check out our full list of published BHS authors HERE!
On June 9th, BHS held its annual Book Awards Ceremony, where select BHS students received awards for standing out in our various departments. The English Department is proud of the five winners of our departmental awards this year.
The 21st Century Book Awards are given out each year to one student in each grade who has shown the greatest improvement in his or her English class. This year’s winners were:
Class of 2016: Kerri Mackey
Class of 2017: Ashlee Grace
Class of 2018: Billy Robinson
Class of 2019: Jamie Theirrien
And the Brown Book Award goes out annually to a student who shows excellent verbal and written skills. This year’s winner was Aysha Afzal – earlier this year, Aysha won the Collab Poetry Contest, and she is one of the members of the BHS Slam Poetry Team.
Congratulations to our five winners, and to all other recipients of the BHS Book Awards!
Students, in case you missed it because of MCAS malaise, the Summer 2016 edition of the Devil’s Advocate came out today – and for the first time in the paper’s history, it is IN COLOR! This edition features excellent reviews of movies and restaurants, articles on Mr. Granger, students in the military, suggestions for summer getaways, and Scooter. And of course, it also features a list of the post-graduation plans for the Class of 2016. If you didn’t get a copy, be sure to find one at school! Or if you’d like to check out a digital copy, CLICK HERE.
Attention all students signed up to take AP Literature or AP Language – We will be holding informational meetings to go over the summer reading assignments on Monday, June 6.
AP Literature will meet in the cafeteria with Mrs. Janovitz and Ms. Bularzik.
AP Language will meet with Ms. Netishen in her classroom.
Both meetings will be brief. If you cannot attend, and have any questions about the assignment, please ask a classmate, or see one of the teachers mentioned above.
