HOW WELL YOU MARK UP YOUR POEMS WILL COUNT AS A ***TEST*** GRADE
Just because we are studying poetry, and the amount that we have to read is significantly less than when we have novels, that DOES NOT mean that you should be spending only 5-10 minutes on your English homework. Read the poems multiple times. Make sure you make a solid attempt to understand what they are doing.
Your Poetry Markups will earn you a possible three points, based on how much work you put into them. You will lose points if you give vague comments like the ones below that tell me nothing about how you are engaging with the poem and look as though they were written in homeroom.
WEAK EXAMPLE (0 or 1 point out of 3) – CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO ZOOM IN
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not write a strong thesis about one of the poems, you cannot earn a 2 or a 3.
BETTER EXAMPLE (2 out of 3)
If your thesis is weak/pointless (not your “questions”), you may lose a point, regardless of the quality of your annotations.
BEST EXAMPLE (3 out of 3) (pardon the blurriness, please)
